  • USA: Domestic violence - Sheehan says her police officer husband blocked all exits

    Barbara Sheehan will soon be tried on homicide charges for shooting her husband, a retired police officer. Sheehan wanted to leave her husband Raymond many times before the day she ended his life by shooting him with one of the guns she says he often pointed at her. She now faces murder charges in Queens, N.Y., for the slaying of her husband, a retired New York City police officer.
  • Costa Rica: Speaking out for Nancy Chaverri

    On 1 July 2010, in a school near San José in Costa Rica, a 17 year-old high school student entered the office of the School Principal, Nancy Chaverri, and shot her in the head. The bullet passed through her neck, hit her spinal cord and broke vertebrae. Due to the damage caused to her body by the bullet, the prognosis was uncertain.

  • Tonga: Women's Crisis Centre calls for tougher law to stop illegal weapons

    On 5 July 2010, the Director of Tonga’s Women and Children’s Crisis Centre (WCCC) said that more rigid laws are needed to combat the illegal importation of weapons. This follows a recent charge of unlawful possession of a firearm laid against man alleged to have shot a security guard outside a nightclub.
